London Rug Cleaning Process
Pre-Inspection
The first crucial step involves an in-depth pre-inspection from our London rug cleaning experts. Our trained professionals thoroughly examine each rug for fading, discoloration, stains, wear, pre-existing damage, colour instability, and odours. By assessing the condition of the rug, we determine its cleanability and identify the most suitable cleaning procedure.
We initiate the cleaning process with a meticulous dusting stage. Here, we carefully remove dry soils, fine dust, and grit that can act like sandpaper on your rug’s fibers causing premature wear and colour loss. The rugs undergo a thorough yet gentle power vacuuming followed by air washing and/or the deployment of harmonic vibrations to remove dry soils.
Pre-Treatment
We then engage advanced spotting and stain treatment techniques. Common stains on wool, silk, and tencel rugs like pet urine, tea/coffee, and red wine are treated with specific products designed to protect the integrity of the rug while effectively eliminating the stain.
Pre-Clean
The rugs are pre-soaked to release deeply embedded dirt and soils from the wool and silk fibers. For rugs affected by pet urine contamination, specialist solutions are used to break down the uric acid crystals and neutralise the bacteria, which is the source of any unpleasant odours.
Cleaning
Safe solutions are delicately agitated into the rug fibers in this stage, with the goal of dissolving, encapsulating, and suspending the ground-in soils. As a certified Woolsafe rug care specialist, we only use solutions that are safe for delicate wool and silk fibers.
Rinsing
Rugs are thoroughly rinsed until the water runs clear, aiding in the further removal of soils and cleaning residue. They are then placed in a rug centrifuge to spin out any remaining water, leaving the rug slightly damp to touch.
Restoration
In the restoration stage, our experts manually restore the ‘nap’ or the pile direction of the rug using specialised rug grooming tools. This mechanical action helps to restore the rug’s original texture and appearance.
Drying
Next, rugs are carefully hung in a climate-controlled drying room, where warm air movers and dehumidifiers produce an environment that effectively and safely dries the rugs.
Final Inspection
Finally, a detailed inspection ensures that our high standards have been maintained throughout the entire rug cleaning process. We are not adverse to repeating any steps that may enhance overall results, providing you with the cleanest and healthiest rug possible.
